Monthly Newsletter

November 2017

Dear John Adams Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for the wonderful support we received with our PTA fall fund raiser and at our annual Halloween Spooktacular.

Attendance for the month of October was at about 96%.  Please continue to help us meet our monthly goal of 97% or better.  For many of our families, the months of November and December bring many special holidays and family gatherings that might take our students away from attending school.  We ask that you make a conscious effort to ensure that your child is at school every day so absences do not add up to academic struggles.  Please communicate with us as soon as possible when your child is absent

Character Education: Core Virtues for November and December

We take pride in how well our students demonstrate strong character virtues and at our Dragon Assemblies, we celebrate those who demonstrate the month’s virtue.  For the month of November, our students will learn and demonstrate the Core Virtue Stewardship.  Stewardship is caring well for the gifts given us- our life, our world, our talents, and those entrusted to our care.  And for the month of December students will learn and demonstrate the Core Virtue Service.  Service is helping others with a cheerful heart.  Please mark your calendar for our next Dragon Assembly, December 22, 2017.

With these two virtues in mind, our students will have the opportunity to put them into practice with our planned event and fundraiser Jump Rope for Heart.  Jump Rope for Heart is a fun-filled event associated with the American Heart Association.  More information will come early next week.

Parent –Teacher Conferences

This year parent-teacher conferences will be held November 30 and December 1 for all of our students.  Teachers will be sending home invitations with your son/daughter mid-November, please look for the invitation in a sealed envelope.

PTA News

Our next PTA meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 4:30 in the library; we will be planning for future events and for our upcoming “Visit with Santa.”

Core Knowledge School - Open Enrollment Intra and Inter-District Transfer

Riverside Unified School District’s open enrollment Intra and Inter-District transfer window for the 2018-2019 school year opens Nov. 1, 2017 and closes Jan. 10, 2018.  We welcome you to invite other families to apply to attend John Adams Elementary, a Core Knowledge School.  We follow the CK foundation sequence which is a body of knowledge that builds upon knowledge.   The foundation shares with us that Knowledge-based schooling puts the emphasis of early education on teaching and learning an enabling core of broadly shared knowledge—enabling because it builds strong foundations for later learning and opens doors to effective participation and mutual understanding in the wider society.  Such knowledge is possessed by successful adults and taken for granted by literate writers and speakers.  It’s the broad and diverse knowledge that makes responsible citizenship possible.”  You can find more information about CK at
