Monthly Newsletter

March 2018

Dear John Adams Parents and Guardians,

The month of February has come and gone and our students’ school attendance did improve.  Please help your child be at school every day and on time.  Their school attendance is always a factor in their success.  If your child will be absent, please contact us as soon as possible.

Character Education: Core Virtue for March

We take pride in how well our students demonstrate strong character virtues and at our Dragon Assemblies, we celebrate those who demonstrate the month’s virtue.  For the month of March, students will learn and demonstrate the Core Virtue Mercy.  Mercy is showing kindness and compassion to those who have not been kind to us.  Our next Dragon Assembly is March 30, 2018.

School Safety

Our students and staff’s safety is our number one priority, for that reason we have safety standards in place to ensure everyone is safe.  Our single school entrance for visitors is on Colorado Ave.  When visiting our campus, all visitors must report to the school office to check in and expected to present ID.  If you plan to volunteer or plan to celebrate your child’s birthday, please make arrangements with the teacher 24 hours or more in advance; no exceptions.  When checking out students, all parents/ guardians will be expected to present ID; a student will not be released without proper ID.  We understand that emergencies occur and that parents might need to have a message delivered to their child.  Before the end of the day, we will provide your child the message during a time that will not interrupt instruction.

English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC)

During this month of March, our English Learners will be taking the new California English language proficiency assessments.  The ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English and has not reclassified to fluent English proficient.  The annual summative assessment is designed to measure an English learner's progress in learning English and to identify the student's English language proficiency level.  Parents may find more information on the state website at .  Please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions regarding your child’s English proficiency level.

Upcoming School Events

This month the second trimester will come to an end on March 16, and report cards will go home on this date.  Please ask your child for their report card to review with them.  Also contact your child’s teacher for any questions you may have.  Please also mark your calendar for March 29; we will celebrate our students’ learning with our annual Open House at 6:00 pm.  We are very excited to show you how much knowledge our students have learned.  Spring Break will be the week of April 2 – April 6, 2018.
