Dear John Adams Community,

I write this letter to all parents and families of students at John Adams Elementary School.  I want to personally inform you that at the conclusion of this school year, I have been asked to serve as the principal of Highgrove Elementary.

Serving as the Principal of John Adams for the past four years has been an honor, and I am proud of the work we have accomplished towards achieving student success.  Together with you, the staff and the students, we have created a beautiful and exciting environment for our students to learn in.  They have learned to love reading and acquire new knowledge and skills to be prepared for the future.  We have engrained in them the belief that they have the ability to be successful because they have hope and courage.  They are now more willing to take risks in their learning, apply what they have learned, and persevere through challenges.  Every day they work towards demonstrating responsibility, respect, and readiness to be successful and productive members of our community.

The work of our mission and vision is not over because there is always room to learn and grow.  As I always share with you, John Adams is a Core Knowledge School.  We strongly believe in the Core Knowledge foundation’s mission, to advance excellence and equity in education for all children.  The foundation strongly promotes knowledge-based schooling.  It puts the emphasis of early education on teaching and learning an enabling core of broadly shared knowledge.  With this in mind, I am excited to share that the new principal of John Adams will be Dr. Lari Nelson.  Dr. Nelson comes from Bryant Elementary in RUSD.  She has led Bryant to a National Core Knowledge School of Distinction.  With her leadership, I assure you, John Adams will continue to grow and strengthen the work of educating, inspiring and empowering students for the future.

Please know that the Riverside Unified School District is committed to sustaining the Core Knowledge program on campus.  I will remain at John Adams through the end of the school year and will help the new principal through the transition.

I am grateful for the many beautiful memories I have made over the past four years, and I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to be part of the John Adams community.

With great love and regard for each and every one of you,

Carolina Michel, principal
